🌟 On December 29, 1941, 29 marines from the Red Navy landed on Koktebel’s coast. This small regiment had an important strategic mission, which consisted of engaging the German garrison in combat to distract it from Feodosia where the Soviet forces intended to carry out their main landing operation.

The feat accomplished by the reconnaissance unit in Koktebel became one of the highlights of the Kerch-Feodosia Landing Operation. It lasted from December 26, 1941, until January 2, 1942, and was aimed at driving the enemy force away from Sevastopol and preventing it from advancing to the Caucasus. The plan provided for carrying out landing operations along the Kerch Peninsula’s northeastern and southern coasts. They had to be carried out in stormy weather, while the enemy fought hard to retain its positions.

The 29-strong reconnaissance unit was on a mission to distract the German garrison in Koktebel and prevent it from helping the German and Romanian forces deployed in and around Feodosia. “No one had any hopes of surviving in our unit, but we really wanted to help our brothers over in Sevastopol,” one of the participants in the landing operation said.

The D-5 submarine took the marines from Novorossiysk and arrived at the destination in the night of December 29. The conditions for carrying out the landing operation were extremely unfavourable. There was a category five storm, freezing temperatures, and icy wind. When the 29 heroes got into the dinghies, the enemy started firing machine guns and mortars at them from its coastal fortifications. The marines had to jump into water and to engage the enemy while covered waist-deep in icy water.

By the evening of January 1, the offensive by the Soviet forces gained enough momentum for them to reach Koktebel. This enabled the Red Navy fighters to join the main landing force. All the volunteers who were still alive suffered wounds.

The selfless efforts by these 29 heroes prevented German troops from derailing the Kerch-Feodosia Operation and invading the Caucasus. In 1958, a monument to the Red Navy volunteers who died during the operation was established in Koktebel – it shows four harsh, courageous stone-carved faces.

The Embassy staff, compatriots living in the United States, and Americans who care about the events of the Great Patriotic War cherish the memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War. We make every effort to preserve the historical truth and glorify the feat of the Victors' Generation. We honor the heroes of those harsh years, who at the cost of their lives liberated the world from Nazi filth.

On January 11, on the 80th anniversary of the death of Soviet pilots - participants of the Zebra project to transfer Catalina seaplanes to the USSR in Elizabeth City (North Carolina), grateful descendants paid tribute to the valor and courage of our ancestors. As a sign of remembrance and sorrow, they lowered scarlet carnations onto the water.

On this day in 1945 when taking off from the Pasquotank River there was a plane crash, the victims of which were 4 Red Army soldiers: commander - Captain Nikolai Mikhailovich Chikov, navigator - Captain Vladimir Moiseevich Levin, flight engineer - Lieutenant Dmitry Mikhailovich Medvedev and flight mechanic - Lieutenant Afanasy Ivanovich Borodin, as well as British Air Force navigator - Lieutenant Peter Nataros.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 Project Zebra, declassified in December 2012, is one of the symbols of the combat brotherhood of the USSR and the USA, who fought shoulder to shoulder against the Nazi executioners. It serves as an example of unity between the two countries, which managed to overcome their differences in time to fight against a common enemy. Due to the efforts of the members of the anti-Hitler coalition, with the decisive role of the Red Army, we liberated the world from the “brown plague”.

It is sad that the West is trying to revise history, belittling the greatest feat of the Soviet people in defeating the Nazi hordes and saving many peoples of “non-Aryan” origin from annihilation. While in the United States, we are acutely aware of the desire of the local political establishment to forget the stages of the Russian-American alliance during the Second World War. The refusal to approve the visit of Russian diplomats to Elizabeth City for the memorial ceremony is a clear confirmation of this.

🎖 In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, it is especially important to remember the lessons of history, to fight against any attempts to justify Nazi criminals and their accomplices, and even more so to put them on a pedestal of honor, as is done in Ukraine. It is necessary to tell the younger generation about the tragic events of the past, working together to immortalize the memory of the heroes of those years.

We bow to the defenders of the Fatherland. No one is forgotten and nothing is forgotten!

The staff of the Russian Embassy in the United States honors the sacred for our people memory of the Great Patriotic War. Each of us cherishes the memories of our heroes - our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers, mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers, who with incredible labor and courage forged the Victory on the front lines and on the home front. We especially appreciate the fact that Russian diplomats still have the opportunity to communicate with witnesses of the war years of 1941-1945. Although it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so due to the restrictions on movement around the country imposed by the United States authorities.

On the eve of the 81st anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade, the staff of the Embassy and the Office of the Defense Attaché met with veterans living in the U.S. - participants of the defense and residents of the unconquered city. They conveyed the message of the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov on the occasion of the memorable date. They handed over jubilee diaries prepared by the Embassy on the main milestones of the Great Patriotic War.

In their congratulations the diplomats expressed their deep gratitude and admiration for the unbreakable spirit of the blockade survivors and their kind attitude to life. In the year of the Defender of the Fatherland and the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory they emphasized the importance of passing on to the next generations the truth about the events of those years and the price our ancestors had to pay to save the peoples of the world from extermination. They stressed the need to stop at the root the falsification of history and any manifestations of neo-Nazism.

We bow to the generation of Heroes! Wishing them good health and prosperity! No one is forgotten and nothing is forgotten!

🎖 As part of the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, diplomats from the Embassy of Russia in the United States and officers from the Military Attaché Office together with pupils from the Embassy's school visited veterans living in Washington and its suburbs. They congratulated them on the upcoming anniversary date. On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin they presented medals “80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”.

🥇 The diplomats expressed words of deep gratitude to the generation of the Victors. They noted that their steel “hardening”, courage and selflessness helped our country to cope with inhuman trials. They emphasized that during the hardest war years the Soviet people not only defended their homeland, but also liberated Europe from Hitler's invaders. The unbroken spirit of the defenders of the Fatherland is a moral and ethical guideline for all generations of people in Russia.

🔹In the coming days we will continue the important mission of presenting medals.

🥇We bow to the generation of the Heroes! We thank the
veterans for their hospitality, wishing them good health
