The latest fatalities mean the overall death toll from a week of protests doubled overnight to at least 14 as supporters of the impeached left wing leader Pedro Castillo show no signs of giving up their demands.
Dina Boluarte, who was Castillo’s running mate and was sworn-in as president on Dec. 7, has failed to quell the anger despite a proposal to hold early elections. Peru’s long-running political instability is reaching a boiling point as no elected leader since 2016 has been able to complete the five-year presidential term. Boluarte is the sixth president since then."

Following the events of December 7, 2022, when the Far-Left President of Peru Pedro Castillo Terrones announced nationwide that he issued orders to close the Peruvian Congress by force, but, given the refusal of the Armed Forces to follow him, ended Impeached and removed from office — and consequently his arrest, Nationwide riots and protests by his supporters erupted at the Andean nation
Riots, lootings, Curfews, protesters corpses on streets and much more Scenes of terror spilled across the country's streets as left-wing protesters and supporters of Mr. Castillo violently clash with the country's Riot Police, causing until the present moment, officially, 30 dead.
Such protests demand 3 things:
— End of Pedro Castillo's imprisonment and his restoration to power.
— Constituent Assembly and a New Constitution
— Closure of the Country's Congress

The current president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, is responsible for the people killed and injured during the protests that took place in Ayacucho, for which she must resign immediately, the regional government considered in a statement.

Former President Pedro Castillo called Dina Boluarte a "usurper" and assured that she is "kidnapped" at the headquarters of the National Division of Special Operations, in Ate, where she is being held.
"What was said recently by a usurper is nothing more than the same snot and drool of the coup right. Therefore, the people must not fall into their dirty game of new elections. Enough of abuses! Constituent Assembly now! Immediate freedom !", he wrote in the second letter he sent from prison.
He also indicated that the advancement of elections proclaimed by Dina Boluarte is unconstitutional because, according to him, he is still president of the Republic.
"... as president and I will not resign or abandon my high and sacred functions," he asserted.
