🇪🇹🇪🇬🇸🇩 Ethiopia says that they have completed the filling of the reservoir of the controversial "Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam", or GERD.

Ethiopia has completed the fourth and final filling of its controversial dam built on the Blue Nile river today. GERD is a $5 billion hydro-electric project, that has been opposed by the countries of Egypt and Sudan, as it threatens their precious water supplies.

Negotiations in August between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia over the dam ended without a breakthrough, with Egypt saying Ethiopia's position did not "tangibly change" after two days of talks in Cairo. With the filling of the dam, this will no doubt make Egypt and Sudan feel threatened even more as water is an extremely important resource for these two mainly desert regions. This will also likely lower water levels for Egypt and Sudan, which may hurt the agriculture sector for both these countries. Ethiopia says more talks are planned in their capital, Addis Ababa this month.

Sudan is already arming its own separatists in the Amhara region, and Egypt may be keen on armed conflict, keep an eye out on the country.

The Brazilian president affirmed that if his Russian counterpart travels to Brazil in 2024 to attend the next G20 summit he will not be arrested despite the arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court.

"If I am president of Brazil and he comes to Brazil, there is no way they will arrest him," he declared in an interview with Firstpost. In addition, he confirmed that he himself plans to attend the BRICS summit that Moscow will host next year.

🇺🇸❌🚩🇦🇷 — Ted Cruz calls for sanctions on Cristina Kirchner

Senator Cruz pointed out that Fernández de Kirchner’s current political role as vice president grants him immunity from jail in Argentina, but that there is no such restriction imposed by Congress for the current administration to sanction her.

“Argentina’s courts have confirmed Cristina Fernandez is a kleptocrat. She has been indicted for obstructing investigations into Iranian terrorism. Why has the Biden administration not sanctioned her?” asked Cruz to Nichols. To which the undersecretary responded that he does not discuss the pending actions and that “I would not be able to discuss what we will or will not do with regard.”

Finally, on Fernández de Kirchner, Senator Cruz said: “She’s a convicted kleptocrat who has been indicted for obstructing investigations into Iranian terrorism. The Kirchner criminal family has looted Argentina’s coffers."
