🔹️2023 marks the 5th anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership. Amidst the transformation of the global economic system and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic Russia is particularly interested in diversifying trade and further deepening economic ties with #ASEAN Member States.
🔹️Among the priorities are: ensuring food and energy security, environmental protection, digitalization of economy, development of smart cities and cooperation in science and education.
🤝Russia’s Far Eastern regions have major competitive advantages in a wide range of industries and, by virtue of their geographical location, are able to convert the existing close cooperation with the Southeast Asian countries into tangible economic, scientific and educational results.

On 13 September the Embassy of Russia in Cambodia hosted a Reception on the occasion of the Fifth Anniversary of Russia-ASEAN Strategic Partnership.
The event was attended by the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, led by Secretary of State H.E. Chem Widhya, Chairman of the Commission of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Information and Media of the National Assembly H.E. Suos Yara and heads of the diplomatic mission of ASEAN Member States accredited in Phnom Penh.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador H.E. Anatoly Borovik recalled the history of the development of relations between our country and the Association, as well as reaffirmed Russia’s support for the #ASEAN Centrality in the evolving regional architecture, readiness to increase economic, security, humanitarian and other cooperation with its members.

📢The first batch of students of the MGIMO University - #ASEAN Masters Program “Political Economy of the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership” has begun their studies.
The program is aimed at training young specialists that would contribute to further fostering ASEAN-Russia ties.
🎓Students from Indonesia 🇮🇩, Malaysia 🇲🇾, Singapore 🇸🇬, Laos 🇱🇦, Vietnam 🇻🇳 and Russia 🇷🇺 were greeted by the MGIMO Vice-Rector for Science and Research Andrey Baykov.
🏆The Vice-Rector spoke about the history of the University and the specifics of the new program, which combines MGIMO's achievements in the field of economics and the Southeast Asia studies.
📚At the meeting, students learned about the features of the educational process, communication with teachers, preparation for classes and exams, searching for a supervisor and working on a master's thesis.

🗓 On September 26, the #ADMMPlus (ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus) joint international anti-terrorist exercise involving the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the armed forces of the #ASEAN Member States and #ADMMPlus Dialogue Partners has kicked off in Primorsky Krai, Russia 🇷🇺.
🔹️ The exercise is aimed at strengthening and promoting regional cooperation in counter-terrorism, enhancing operational cooperation among ASEAN Member States and their Dialogue Partners in counter-terrorism, and sharing counterterrorism experience.
🔹️The exercise comprises two stages. At the first stage, representatives of the military command bodies at the operational and tactical levels are to determine the concept and develop a decision to conduct an anti-terrorist operation. At the second stage, the military contingents as part of a multinational grouping are to practise joint practical actions in the course of an anti-terrorist operation at the Sergeevsky training ground.
🔹️ Apart from Russia 🇷🇺 operational groups and military contingents of the Armed Forces of Brunei 🇧🇳, Vietnam 🇻🇳, India 🇮🇳, Indonesia 🇮🇩, Cambodia 🇰🇭, China🇨🇳, Laos 🇱🇦, Malaysia 🇲🇾, Myanmar 🇲🇲, Thailand 🇹🇭, and the Philippines 🇵🇭 are taking part in the exercises.

🗓️On October 12-14, 2023 the ASEAN Centre will hold its traditional annual international conference “Russia and ASEAN in the Asia-Pacific Region: Dynamics of Cooperation, Regional Processes, and Global Context” It will take place within the framework of the 15th Convention of the Russian International Studies Association (RISA). This year the conference will be dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership.
The conference has been held within the RISA Convention framework since 2016 and annually brings together, leading world and Russian experts on Southeast Asia and ASEAN, diplomats, representatives of business and civil society, students and young researchers.
This year it aims to discuss multiple issues relevant to the ASEAN-Russia political, economic and energy cooperation in the context of global turbulence and to identify new promising areas for ASEAN-Russia strategic partnership. Interregional cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and ASEAN will be among conference topics.
The conference will feature discussions on the digital agenda and post-pandemic economic recovery of Russia and ASEAN countries. The key trends in the political and socio-economic progress of individual member countries of the Association will be given considerable attention, as will the current political and socio-economic events in the region. Along with the principal program, there will be special sessions and presentations of the latest academic literature on the Southeast Asian region.
Traditionally many high-ranked guests of the conference – politicians, diplomats and researchers – take part in the presentations of new academic and popular literature.
Specifically, this year, the ASEAN Centre, in collaboration with the Center for Vietnam and ASEAN Studies of the ICCA RAS, will be presenting a collective monograph titled «ASEAN on the Path of Integration: Achievements, Challenges, Dilemmas». This publication is the outcome of extensive research and a series of scholarly discussions held at the MGIMO and RAS Institute of China and Contemporary Asia. In addition, the Russian edition of the book «Dealing with an Ambiguous World» authored by Singaporean researcher H.E. Mr. Bilahari Kausikan and edited by the Center's senior expert, Dr. Victor Sumsky, will be also announced during the conference. The conference's sidelines will also feature a presentation of the previous conference proceedings collection «Russia and ASEAN in the Asia-Pacific Region». As well as other current analytical and expert materials.
A Youth Day is scheduled as part of the conference. Students and young researchers whose research interests lay in the field of Southeast Asian studies are welcome to represent their achievements and share experiences.
On the conference eve, on October 9-10, the 5th Meeting of Network of ASEAN-Russia Think Tanks (NARTT) will also be hosted by Russia and MGIMO as the national coordinator.
Annually, about 100 participants attend the conference, with the speakers which are representatives of all ten ASEAN countries as well as Russian participants from Moscow (MSU, RUDN, HSE, ICCA RAS, IOS RAS, IMEMO RAS, IE RAS, FNISC RAS) and regional (SPbSU, FEFU, URFU, TSU) universities and academic institutions, as well as international organizations (e.g. International Committee of the Red Cross).
