📢 State Secretary - Deputy Minister for Civil Defence Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters of the Russian Federation Alexey Serko 🇷🇺 is taking part in the First #ASEAN Disaster Resilience Forum in Singapore 🇸🇬 on August 22-24, 2023.
🗓 On August 20-23, representatives of the Eurasian Economic Comission (#EEC) took part in the consultations on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting held in Semarang, Indonesia 🇮🇩.

🔹️Practical steps to deepen interaction between the #EAEU and the #ASEAN were in the spotlight of the meeting of the EEC representatives with Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community H.E. Mr. Satvinder Singh. The EEC and the ASEAN Secretariat discussed the results of implemention of the Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and ASEAN on Economic Cooperation, noting the desire to deepen dialogue and mutual interest in studying best integration practices.

🔹️H.E. Mr. Sergei Glazyev, Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics of the EEC addressed the meeting online:

💬"Interaction between EAEU and ASEAN designed to increase trade and economic cooperation between regions. In March, we held a seminar on digital transformation in the EAEU and ASEAN, which attracted the attention of official, business and expert circles in our regions. We intend to start preparing the second face-to-face stage of such a seminar, which could take place in 2024”.

The idea of the face-to-face seminar was supported by Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, ASEAN Secretary General, who also expressed appreciation of the overall level of interaction between the #EAEU and the ASEAN.

Sergei Glazyev noted the joint contribution of the EEC and the ASEAN to implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as the efforts of the two associations to develop contacts through business circles in order to increase trade.

The EEC Minister drew attention to the upward trend in the trade turnover between the EAEU and the ASEAN (it has grown 1.6 times since 2015).

🔹️A number of bilateral meetings between the EEC and representatives of the ASEAN Member States - the Lao PDR 🇱🇦, Indonesia 🇮🇩, Cambodia 🇰🇭 and the Philippines 🇵🇭 took place on the sidelines of the event as well.
🗓 On August 25, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Mochalnikov 🇷🇺 took part in the 17th East Asia Summit (#EAS) Energy Ministers' Meeting in Bali, Indonesia 🇮🇩.

In his speech, the Deputy Minister stressed that the EAS Participating Countries are unanimous in supporting the UN sustainable development goals, primarily in terms of ensuring a reliable energy supply.

🇷🇺🇻🇳 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during a meeting with Permanent Deputy Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Minh Vu

📍Moscow, August 30, 2023

💬 It is good to be able to carry on with the tradition of holding regular consultations, including as part of our strategic dialogue.

Russia and Vietnam have quite a track record in maintaining trust-based, friendly, and brotherly relations rooted in many decades of friendship and mutual assistance. We appreciate the attitude which persists among the people of Vietnam towards Russia and the Soviet Union in connection with our contribution to your efforts to fight for the independence and sovereignty of your homeland.

This solidarity, mutual respect, assistance and support have been quite useful in many situations throughout history, whenever the world found itself at distressing junctures. I am certain that this will remain the case in the future too.

🇲🇾 On August 31, Malaysia celebrates Independence Day.

For several centuries the Malay Peninsula remained in thrall to Europe with the Portuguese, then the Dutch, and later the British taking turns ruling the region.

In 1786, the British built their first fortifications on the Penang Island, and by 1815, the British Crown controlled Malaya and Singapore, while North Borneo, where the present-day states of Sabah and Sarawak are located, became its protectorate in 1888.

In an effort to retain its grip over Malaya, the British administration sought to capitalise on internal antagonisms among the population by fuelling inter-ethnic strife. The British wanted to extract as much as possible from their colonial possessions in Southeast Asia which amounted to the de facto enslavement of ordinary workers.

After the period of Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945, Malaya returned under British rule in the aftermath of World War II. This is when anti-colonial sentiment across territories controlled by the British became stronger.

🗓 Proclaimed in 1957 by what was then called the Federation of Malaya, the Malayan Declaration of Independence marked a new stage in its national development free from British colonial oppression. Every year, Independence Day celebrations are a moment of national jubilation.

Malaysia has achieved substantial technological progress since the 1950s while remaining mindful of its rich historical heritage. Today the country is one of the thriving economies in Asia-Pacific and beyond.

🤝 Our country established diplomatic relations with Malaysia on April 3, 1967.

🇷🇺🇲🇾 Today, Malaysia is an important and promising partner for Russia in the Asia-Pacific Region, where Russia is consistent in its efforts to expand its diversified ties on the solid foundation of the traditional friendship and mutual trust.

🎉 We congratulate our Malaysian friends on their national holiday and wish them peace, wellbeing and prosperity!
